I think it's only fair for me to warn you that I'm not exactly a helpless victim. While I'm sure having you there while I get a drink would deter anyone who might try something inappropriate, that wouldn't put you at any real advantage over me. I'm quite capable of taking care of myself if you or anyone else attempted something salacious, but I'd very much like to give you the benefit of the doubt. I have no doubts whatsoever that you can take care of yourself - far be it from me to insinuate that I think otherwise. I just know that there are far too many people in the world who would try to take advantage of a situation where they thought you might be unaware. It helps to have someone with you to provide a barrier between you and them. I'd make for an effective barrier - I'm pretty large. I try not to be anymore, but I can also be intimidating if I want to be.
Rest assured that I mean you no harm. If I ever did anything to make you uncomfortable, I'd deserve whatever consequences of those actions. Anyway, yeah. I'm available.

Trying to take it all on your own two shoulders sounds like a recipe for disaster. Believe me, even just knowing you've a friend in your corner makes a world of difference.
I suppose if your size alone is enough of a deterrent for most people, using it to my advantage wouldn't be the worst idea. Especially not since you're giving me permission. I'm glad we understand one another, and hopefully that understanding persists once we're imbibing.
