I agree. And while it's not always easy to take ownerships of mistakes made - believe me, I've made my fair share - it's also necessary if you don't want to get stuck and fixate on them. I might have been led down the wrong paths, but I made the decision to stay there for as long as I did. I've got so much to atone for, it seems an uphill battle at the best of times. But I don't want to be the man I was before.
Precisely. Someone to make sure that nobody else tries to capitalize on any possible inebriation. I might have done terrible things, but I would never take advantage of a person in that way. Takes a real monster to even consider it. If it makes you feel a bit more comfortable, there are plenty of recipes to be found that can be made at home. That might help with any lingering feelings of unease about going out.

The very fact that you want to atone for what you've done already makes you a better man than you've been. There's always the risk of backpedaling, true, but if you need a support system... I can offer that.
I think it's only fair for me to warn you that I'm not exactly a helpless victim. While I'm sure having you there while I get a drink would deter anyone who might try something inappropriate, that wouldn't put you at any real advantage over me. I'm quite capable of taking care of myself if you or anyone else attempted something salacious, but I'd very much like to give you the benefit of the doubt. In fact, I am giving you the benefit of the doubt. So if you'd still like to, I'm available for that drink whenever you've a free evening.

I have no doubts whatsoever that you can take care of yourself - far be it from me to insinuate that I think otherwise. I just know that there are far too many people in the world who would try to take advantage of a situation where they thought you might be unaware. It helps to have someone with you to provide a barrier between you and them. I'd make for an effective barrier - I'm pretty large. I try not to be anymore, but I can also be intimidating if I want to be.
Rest assured that I mean you no harm. If I ever did anything to make you uncomfortable, I'd deserve whatever consequences of those actions. Anyway, yeah. I'm available.

Trying to take it all on your own two shoulders sounds like a recipe for disaster. Believe me, even just knowing you've a friend in your corner makes a world of difference.
I suppose if your size alone is enough of a deterrent for most people, using it to my advantage wouldn't be the worst idea. Especially not since you're giving me permission. I'm glad we understand one another, and hopefully that understanding persists once we're imbibing.
